Michael Adams protects the interests of his clients in both state and federal court by providing in-depth analysis of the issues involved in their business disputes so that they are resolved favorably and efficiently.

A senior member of the firm’s litigation team, Mike concentrates his practice heavily on issues related to both real and personal property (ad valorem) taxation.  He was instrumental in obtaining the dismissal of improperly valued cases involving over 300 plaintiffs filed against a local Texas property appraisal district. Mike also has extensive experience handling insurance claims and administration litigation, health and accident reinsurance disputes, and banking and commercial loan litigation – including UCC warranty disputes, landlord and tenant disputes and real property foreclosure issues.

Mike represents a wide variety of corporate clients including insurance companies, banks, appraisal districts, and other businesses. His clients include American National Insurance Company, Moody National Bank, the Galveston Central Appraisal District, and the Somerville Central Appraisal District. Most recently, Mike won a significant victory in state court on behalf of a life insurance company, successfully defending it against claims that it violated Texas law by improperly rescinding a policy.

A seasoned litigator respected by his peers and the courts, Mike is AV® Rated™ by Martindale-Hubbell. He has been involved in all aspects of pre-trial and trial practice, having first-chaired major insurance, commercial and ad valorem tax litigations. Mike also has deep appellate experience, including federal and state appeals involving UCC, insurance and ad valorem property tax disputes.

  • Successfully defended insurance company client in multiple jurisdictions throughout the country; obtained summary judgments and advantageous settlements in cases under applicable state and federal laws.
  • Obtained favorable jury verdict on behalf of insurance company client against alleged violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, bad faith claims and breach of contract.
  • Successfully obtained an injunction on behalf of bank client, preserving its rights to collateral against a mechanic’s lien claim.
  • Obtained summary judgment in favor of insurance company against allegations of bad faith, Deceptive Trade Practices Act violations, breach of contract and negligence.
  • Successfully defended corporate client against claims arising out of allegation of age and race discrimination.
  • Obtained favorable settlement on behalf of Texas appraisal district in lawsuit involving low-income housing appraisal.
