Maritime Choice of Law Victory
September 2023

GH&A attorneys, Robert A. Davee and Joseph Z. Cavanah, both members of the firm’s Maritime Law team, recently obtained an order of partial summary judgment for a defendant that provided for the proper application of general maritime law.  The plaintiff sought relief under Texas state law for the alleged breach of a vessel repair contract.  The Court agreed with GH&A’s attorneys that the Plaintiff’s state law remedies were inconsistent with the uniform application of maritime law. The plaintiff’s claims were therefore denied, along with the plaintiff’s request for attorney’s fees.
