GH&A Wins Dismissal of $1 Million Reinsurance Claim and Request for Treble Damages for Client American National Insurance Company against Health First Health Plans, LP

GH&A attorneys, Angie Olalde, Andy Mytelka, and Janet Rushing, recently won the dismissal of a reinsurance contract dispute filed by Health First Health plans, LP against Firm client American National Insurance Company. Health First originally sought statutory treble damages and interest on its $1.1 million reinsurance claim. GH&A attorneys obtained an early dismissal of Health First’s statutory claims. The district court recently granted GH&A attorneys’ motion for summary judgment and dismissed Health First’s remaining claims, concluding the “result dictated” by the parties’ agreement is that “American National does not owe Health First anything.” The opinion can be read in full here.
