GH&A lawyers Joseph R. Russo, Jr., Angie Olalde, and Jordan Raschke Elton, partnering with co-counsel from the Public Interest Legal Foundation, recently obtained a victory on appeal for Galveston County before the en banc U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, in Petteway, et al. v. Galveston County. In this decision, the en banc Court agreed with arguments made for the County relating to Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, and overruled decades-old authority in the Fifth Circuit. The victory means that Galveston County may use the redistricting map adopted by its elected Commissioners.
