Appellate Victories at Fifth Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court in Voting Rights Act Cases
December 2023

Firm lawyers recently obtained a ruling from the United States Supreme Court upholding Galveston County’s adopted commissioner’s court precinct map for use during pendency of an en banc appeal to the Fifth Circuit.  Less than two months after final judgment, lawyers, Joseph R. Russo, Jr., Angela K. Olalde, and Jordan Raschke Elton, secured en banc review of Fifth Circuit precedent and a ruling from the United States Supreme Court upholding the Fifth Circuit decision to maintain Galveston County’s adopted voting map while the matter is on appeal.  The final judgment has been subject to numerous administrative stays and a whirlwind of emergency appellate briefings and challenges by the U.S. Department of Justice, numerous organizations and other plaintiffs represented by redistricting counsel from across the country.
